Noida: Aiming to check the use of clean river water a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Noida Authority and NTPC Ltd for an ambitious 36-km pipeline project, meant to transport Noida’s waste water to NTPC’s Dadri plant for its use.
According to NTPC officials, the project is aimed to save clean water as well as ground water.
This is in line with the tariff policy amendment by the Ministry of Power, which requires mandatory
The Union Power Ministry, on January 28, 2016, had issued a notification which requires mandatory use of treated sewage water from Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of municipal body for thermal power plant located within 50 kilometre radius of the STP,” an NTPC statement said. Besides saving clean river water, it would also help conserve fast-depleting groundwater.
With this MoU, Noida will become the first city in north India to have a plant run by sewage water. Noida Authority will provide 80 million litres per day to NTPC. NTPC will fund the project.
